At our center, the heart beats from 11 different work areas. Each area plays an important role in giving our residents and day workers a meaningful livelihood. The products and services developed here not only help generate revenue, but also save costs because we can do a lot of work ourselves.
For us, it is important to run a financially sustainable center. This means we need to be less dependent on donations and more focused on the ability to create our own income.
One of the areas that still has a lot of potential is our woodworking department. Here we repair furniture – a service that is in high demand – and also make new furniture and wooden toys. In 2025, we expanded this section further, but unfortunately this has completely limited the recycling area‘s space.
With the renovation of the bookstore, this meant that we now have to park large buses, and other vehicles outside. The weather and elements cause wear and tear, and we know that these valuable assets would last longer if they could be stored undercover.
That is why we have worked hard to realise our dream of a new outbuilding on the site. Such a building will not only provide protection, but also create new opportunities:
- More space for woodworking and recycling, which means we can offer more opportunities for new day workers in our day program.
- A chance to increase exchange programs with other institutions such as House Horizon.
- Better protect our assets namely vehicles, trailers and agri–equipment.
- Thanks to more space and better flow, it will help promote productivity in both woodworking and general recycling.
- We can now also use this outbuilding during Kermis and other fundraisers, instead of renting expensive tents, thus saving huge costs.
With this expansion, we can make the center stronger, more sustainable, and more meaningful to everyone who is part of here, and we would like to thank our donor who made the project possible.
