In this area, a large array of products are produced with sewing, embroidery, crocheting, knitting and more. Everything produced are hand-made and unique, such as quilts and bedding, throws, knitted items, toys, aprons, household items, kitchen smalls and many more.

The handwork is, together with Woodwork, the oldest work area in the centre and was started years ago when the centre was built. It still remains an old favourite and allows the residents to create beautiful items, expressing their creativity and skills. Many of our residents enjoy quilting and knitting in their spare time.

Every year, the Handwork is a firm favourite at out yearly Fête and local Christmas markets.

Popular items include teddybears and other soft toys, Quilts and bedspreads, baby blankets and clothing, reading pillows, pencil bags, wood carriers, clothes pegs bags, and crocheted flowers.

If you are interested in buying any handwork items, contact werkareabest@huishorison.org.za and we will gladly assist.

All the items produced are so unique because we aim to creatively upcycle donations into practical and beautiful items.

We therefore always welcome donations of:
