What is Mandela Day? On 18 July every year, we invite you to mark Nelson Mandela International Day by making a difference in your communities. Everyone has the ability and the responsibility to change the world for the better! Mandela Day is an occasion for all to take action and inspire change.

As an Individual

  • Get creative and help us to knit, crochet or sew – contact bemarking@huishorison.org.za for patterns and further info
  • Pack out and throw out! We need a variety of items including:
    • Decorations (fairy lights, bunting, gift bags),
    • Good quality household goods.
    • Plant containers (interesting ones too!)
    • Good quality clothes (from August)
    • Books (ANY type, or quality, including magazines)
    • Water-based paint
  • Donate products for our parlour (small quanities):
    • Nail Polish
    • Nail Files
    • Make Up, eye liner, mascara
    • Eye shadow pallets
    • Make up Brushes
  • Start Fundraising. Choose your favourite sport or hobby and set yourself a goal or enter for an event. Get friends and family to sponsor you!Donate via GivenGain

As a Business

  • Mural Painting Teambuild
    • Group to paint a new mural in our recycling venue.
    • Donations of Paint (wall paint, water based. Please enquire for colours)

 

  • Gardening Team build

We need help in our gardens! This is the perfect opportunity for a small team to get their hands dirty.

    • We would like to plant more trees  and any tree donations (and planting thereof) are welcomed!
    • We need help to clean out the cut branches and trees and clear out around the dam area.
    • Propagate plants: flowers, bulbs, herbs or any plants (except spekboom, we have enough!) – This can be done off-site and plants donated to Horizon House.
  • Order rusks and biscuits, quiche and brownies for the office for the month from our Bakery.
  • Book your year-end function at House Horizon’s annual Barefoot Bowls and challenge your competition (other companies) to a game of bowls!
  • Collect toiletries: soap, body wash, shampoo, roll-on deodorant, sanitary products, toothpaste, body lotion
  • Help us get creative and knit, crochet or sew a variety of items.
  • Donations of hardware for our woodwork department:

As a School

  • Challenge the other classes in the raising of funds, or collection of goods for Horizon House:
    – Books
    – Plants
    – Shoes (new or lightly used, especially adult sizes 8-11)
    – Decorations, Fairy and decorative lights, bunting as well as fancy-dress costumes
    – Toiletries:

• Bars of soap

• Baby Powder
• 1 ply toilet paper, individual rolls
• Body Lotion
• Tooth Paste
• Sanitary Pads
• Wash cloths/wash sponges

  • Get a group of classmates to come and help us in our gardens.
  • Sell pixels for our Pixel Project (R10 per pixel)
  • Organize a Fun Run, Cake  Sale or Fundraising event to raise funds
