Huis Horison’s annual Fête takes place 7 November 2026

Huis Horison’s much-loved annual Fête returns this summer with two festive days filled with fun, food, and community spirit – all in support of adults with primary intellectual disabilities.

All proceeds from the event go directly to supporting the care and development of adults with primary intellectual disabilities at Huis Horison. We invite you to bring your friends and family and join us for this joyful celebration filled with heart, heritage, and community.

Follow the N1 highway to the Paarl.
Take Exit 39 at (Stellenbosch / Klipheuwel), and turn right onto the R304.
Follow the road for 13.7km until you reach Stellenbosch.
Turn right onto the R44.
After 1.4km turn right onto the R310.
Travel another 1.4km until you reach Distell on your left side.
At this traffic light, turn right into Oude Libertas Street and follow the road for 950m.
Turn left in Kokkewiet Street (the Playground is on the right side)
Travel until you reach a T-junction.
Turn right onto Patrys Street. Horizon House is on the left, 1 Patrys Street.

Parking and Entrance

  • Parking: Unfortunately, no parking available inside. Park in designated event parking (follow signs)
  • Entrance: Enter through Entrance 2 (pedestrian entry only).

Village Thyme, Books and Thrift

The only stalls open will be Village Thyme, Bookstore and Thrift popup (Bric n Brac & clothing).

(Please note, this year there will be no pancakes or product sales on Friday)

Sommer Skemer (Sundowners) and Live Music

Visitors are invited to join us for beer on tap, wine by the glass and grab a delicious boerewors roll (in support of Stellenbosch Werkssentrum) while listening to live music performed by local artists.

Trail Run Registration & Late Entries

PLEASE NOTE: Horison Challenge Trail Run registrations and late entries will take place this year on Friday from 16:00 to 19:00. All runners MUST register. *NO late entries or registrations on Saturday morning*.

There will be live music, boerewors rolls, beer, and wine, please stay on and support the Sommer Skemer Sundowners.

KERMIS Saturday 7 November

09:00 – 13:00

The traditional fête as we know it, comes alive with a wide variety of attractions for all ages.

We start bright and early at 07:00 with the Horison Challenge Trail Run, coffee and toasties.

At 09:00 the rest of the 36 stalls open, including traditional food stalls, live music, beer on tap, wine, fun activities for the kids and a variety of unique products created in our Huis Horison work areas, and of course the ever popular second-hand books, thrift, and bric n brac items.

Horison Challenge Trail Run

Serious and casual trail runners can take part in this Trail Run. Starts at 07:00

The race start and finish will be at the Huis Horison Kermis. Distances of 3km, 5km and 10km. The race will be timed.

Coffee available for early birds. Goodie bags for the first 200 entries (pre-entries only) and medals for 10km finishers.

Rules

  • Children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
  • Unfortunately, NO DOGS allowed on the 5km and 10km trial run as the race takes place on a farm with its own dogs.

Kermis

Gates open 09:00. Visitors can look forward to traditional food stalls featuring favourites like pancakes, roosterkoek, ribburgers, greek pitas, butter chicken, potjiekos meals, lamb on the spit, skilpadjies, boerewors rolls, pies, quiches, puddings, cakes and baked snacks. You can even stock up on your fresh bread and vegetables.

Village Thyme will be open for sit-down eats and a great selection of homebaked cakes by the slice.

We are thrilled that Weskaap Boereorkes will be playing for us live! Enjoy beer on tap, wines by the glass, and great coffee by Konig Coffee.

Children will be well entertained with a jumping castle, games, tombola, and other fun activities throughout the morning. Car lovers can enjoy the antique car exhibition, while food enthusiasts are encouraged to enter our Potjiekos Competition and show off their culinary talents.

SnapScan and card payment facilities are available.

Potjiekos Competition

Come and take part in Huis Horison’s Potjiekos Competition and impress the judges with your winning potjie!

Time: Start as early as you want. Potjies will be judged promptly at 12h00.

Entry fee: R400 per pot (team of 2-4).

By taking part, you will be making a difference! The Potjiekos will be sold afterwards as one of the meals at the Kermis, and the proceeds will form part of the fundraising effort of the day.
