Every year, the fete is a unique experience, and this year was no different.

Planning such an event is always a challenge, but this year it seems that the most difficult part was the uncertainty whether we could go ahead… or not… and wow, then hurray! What a relief once we could continue!

That left us with little time to plan, but everyone pulle their weight and wittled away with all the arrangements. Finally, when all were done, we could receive everyone according to the necessary protocols.

Rain? Impossible! … or so they say. Until the heavens opened the day before the fête – it didn’t rain, it poured. Luckily, the marquees were up and the team merely had to organize the placement of gazebos, fireplaces and directions for the day.

Of course, the relief was unmistakable when morning came without a drop of rain. The whole day was cool and pleasant, and our patrons dry!

A fête won’t be a fête without pancakes, roosterkoek, trifle and potjiekos. Everything was there and more, including tripe, brick n brack, coffee and breakfast, together with an exhibition of vintage motors for all to enjoy.

Our online shop opened in October and pre-orders could be done for Fête Boxes and Veggie Boxes. Keep an eye on the online shop,  where you can buy rusks and other treats from our bakery, as well as woodwork and handmade items, wood and firelighters.

Regardless of all the challenges, the fête proved to be a great success, and the funds raised will give us a welcome relief after a trying year.

The Horizon House Fête is held annualy, and on the first Saturday in November. Save the date for next year 6 November 2021 and join us again!
