Our Future

The priorities for the future of Horizon House are as follows:

  • Ensuring financial sustainability and security
  • Facilitating sustainable development so that our residents with a primary intellectual disability can receive holistic care from early adult stage to the end of their lives
  • Facilitating the comprehensive development of the land
  • Involving the entire community in all aspects of the centre
  • Taking care of the general welfare and developing a positive lifestyle for the residents
  • Developing and optimising the work areas and the residents’ life skills.

Agri Food Garden

We aim to establish a tenth work area at the centre, namely an Agricultural Food Gardening Programme, as the demand for quality fresh produce remains high. This will be done in collaboration with the Stellenbosch Work Centre.

The herbs produced in this area will be used to make associated products to use and to be sold.  In addition, the day workers will have access to the yields from the gardens to take back to their households and communities.

Exciting plans are in place for the development of a new residential unit, which will enable us to accommodate more residents in the centre. Construction is earmarked to start by early 2020. To view the showroom and apply, please contact admin@huishorison.org.za
