Huis Horison and crocheting are synonymous. Our Handwork work area is our oldest and most established work area at the center, and a large portion of our residents can knit or crochet, and even do so in their spare time. Every year at our Kermis, the craft stall is extremely popular, with a variety of handmade blankets, toys and many more for sale from this work area.

Our crochet workshops at Village Thyme are starting in May and are officially fully booked, thanks to a supporting community that stands together and participates. Our hearts are overflowing with gratitude for the incredible support we receive daily.

If you are already skilled in crochet, feel free to join our regular “Hekel Hoekie” (Crochet Corner) at Village Thyme. Bring your crochet project and enjoy a quiet time or with friends in a welcoming and like minded space.

And, if you don’t have a crochet project yet, or want to take on another one, feel free to join our support in the “Blokkies vir Emily”  “blanket-a-thon”. Do this as part of Mandela Day or on your own time. Crochet blocks of 17 x 17cm or make a 1.5m x1.5m cube blanket. Donations can be dropped off at Village Thyme so that we can do a combined shipment.

There will be an opportunity for crochet classes again, so if you are interested, contact villagethyme@huishorison.org.za and we will keep you informed about a next Crochet Workshop.
