This group, fondly known as “The Green Team”, is constantly busy in the gardens and across the estate, and takes responsibility for all aspects of the gardens and grounds around the Centre.

They maintain existing plants, beddings and lawns, plant new plants for the enjoyment of everybody.

This team is also involved with the production of wood chips. With the fencing around the property completed in 2023, we can now focus on developing the 14.18Ha to the benefit of all our residents and day workers. Our aim is to make it more accessible with the development of walking paths, but the first step is the removal of alien vegetation and the development of a master plan for the property.

In 2023, we already removed a lot of alien vegetation and a large row of beefwood trees, which are then processed into wood chips. These wood chips are available to the general public for use on walking paths and on plant beddings, helping to keep the moisture in and protect the micro-organisms in the ground.

This work area is also responsible for the cultivation of compost from garden clippings and green kitchen waste. The compost is, in turn, used to fertilize the ground in and around the Centre’s gardens and save a lot of precious funds when we do not have to buy it in.
